View ESC of Northeast Ohio
21st Century Learning
 
The Educational Service Center (ESC) of Northeast Ohio supports innovative, student-centered approaches to teaching and learning that are transforming public education. With best practices in 21st Century Learning, students acquire the skills, content knowledge, expertise, and literacies they need to succeed in work and life.
 
The ESC supports districts through programs and networks focusing on the following:  
 
College and Career Readiness
The ESC is a leader in K-12 and higher education alignment, collaborting with the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Higher Education for the benefits of students. It serves on the Higher Education Compact for Northeast Ohio and assists K-12 districts, colleges, and universities with College Credit Plus agreements.
 
Personalized Learning 
The ESC supports professional development for educators and the implementation of best practices within districts as they employ various pedagogical methods for personalized learning. Workshops and in-services are provided for problem-based and project-based learning, blended and hybrid methods, flipped classrooms, credit flex and other frameworks.
 
Assessment and Accountability 
The ESC supports federal and state assessment and accountability requirements, providing training for district administrators and educators. It participated in the Ohio performance assessment pilot and leads a consortium of districts engaged in inplementation of performance-based assessments.  
 
Networks 
Since 2009, The ESC has participated in Ohio's Innovation Lab Network providing facilitation and fiscal support of districts' innovative practices for student-centered learning. It collaborates with the Ohio Department of Education and leads a consortium of districts focusing on Competency-Baced Education practices. It facilitates the Disrupting Poverty Network in designing strategies for districts to alleviate the achievement and opportunity gap for students affected by economic hardships. 
 
Global Education and Engagement 
The ESC provides institutes, workshops and programs for educators and students focusing on global topics and themes. It collaborates with scholars and experts locally and globally to enhance understanding of cultural competencies and opportunities for exchange.
