Brooklyn Preschool Program
The Roadoan Elementary Preschool is a center-based special needs program available through the Brooklyn City School District. The program serves children age three to five who demonstrate developmental delays in language development, motor skills, cognitive areas, socialization, behavioral/emotional growth and/or adaptive behavior. The children are integrated into a classroom comprised of typical peers and other children with special needs. The classes meet for two and one-half hour sessions, four days a week, Monday through Thursday.

In addition to the center-based classroom, other services are available as deemed appropriate through an evaluation which determines a child’s strengths and needs. Such services may include Speech/Language and Occupational/Physical therapies. These services may be provided individually, in small groups, or on a consultative basis.

If you are interested in the preschool program, have questions or would like to make a referral, please contact Brooklyn City Schools.

Local School District Bus Driver Certification Services
The Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County has a legal responsibility in the certification of bus drivers in the local districts of: Cuyahoga Heights Local School District, Independence Local School District and Richmond Heights Local School District. Each driver, in addition to a valid pre-service certificate must receive an annual school bus driver certificate. Issuance of that certificate must come from the Educational Service Center Governing Board. This procedure affirms that the requirements for bus drivers as set forth by Ohio Law have been met. In addition, the esc assists in the in-service workshops for bus drivers when requested by the local school districts.

Richmond Heights Preschool Program

The Richmond Heights Local School district provides a wide variety of services to resident children (ages three through five) to provide early intervention for those young children who are in need and a early childhood option for resident families of typically developing preschool aged children. The Richmond Heights Preschool Program and services is a cooperative effort between the school and the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County.

The preschool staff will provide a “free” screening process for those preschool aged children who are suspected at-risk for early learning difficulties. The results of the screening are shared with the parent/guardians and if appropriate additional formal assessment will occur. The play-based screenings take place at Richmond Heights Elementary School and are designed to provide the family and school information regarding the child’s development in social skills, communication, hearing, vision, behavior, language, sensory-motor and pre-academic skills.

Richmond Heights Local School district also provides a Center-Based Special Needs Preschool Classroom experience for those children who qualify through the screening and assessment process. The program serves children ages three through five who demonstrate developmental delays in language development, motor skills, cognitive areas, socialization, behavioral/emotional growth and/or adaptive behaviors. The children are integrated into a preschool classroom setting comprised of typically developing peers and other children with identified special needs. The classroom experience meets five days a week for a morning and afternoon session. For those children who are identified as a preschooler with a disability, the family and school personnel will identify the child’s needs, will design an individual education plane and will provide an array of services that may include center-based setting or itinerant teacher services and related services which may include speech and language services, occupational and/or physical therapy as determined appropriate by the family and school personnel.
