Family & Community Support
With the introduction of No Child Left Behind, the US Department of Education began to place emphasis on evidence-based education. Evidence-based practice involves using scientifically-based research to guide educational decisions regarding teaching and learning approaches, strategies, and interventions. Below are links to information and resources regarding family and community supports as it pertains to access to the general education currciulum and student learning:
Educators need not wait for children to fail before implementing improvement strategies. Thanks to national achievement standards, teachers and related-service personnel are able to track student performance and make interventions early. Though most students need minimal help, some need major intervention. But choosing an effective approach can be daunting. Where should one start?
Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, school districts in Second Year School Improvement Status are required to provide parents and their children with the option of using supplemental educational services to help their children. The Educational Service Center is an ODE approved provider of Supplemental Education Services (SES) that districts can include on the listing of providers given to families. For those families that chose the ESC as a provider, the ESC will work with the district coordinator to get student information, provide tutors and materials, and keep ongoing records to student progress to be shared with parents and teachers. Families must work through their school district process to request SES services. Supplemental Educational Services (SES) - Parents
