Family and Community Involvement

The Education Service Center of Cuyahoga County provides districts and families technical assistance in supporting student achievement.  Research has shown when families are involved in their child's education, students are more successful.  Parents can become involved with their child’s learning by better understanding the:

academic content standards,
• data collection and accountability,
• and how to support students with different learning styles.

Parent Resources for students with disabilities, special education laws/regulations and other issues of concern to parents are available by contacting our State Support Team staff.

One of the ways for families to be proactive in their child's education is to connect with national, statewide and local organizations that support student learning. Parents can be involved in many levels from local to national for example:

• Superintendent of Public Instruction's Parent Advisory Council,
• State Advisory Panel on Exceptional Children
Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities,
• the Parent Mentors of Ohio,
Ohio PTA,
OhioPIRC, and
National Parents for Public Schools

Together families and districts can work together to support student achievement. HB 1 has heightened the awareness of parent engagement.  The ESC of Cuyahoga County is actively working with districts through professional development and technical assistance as they identify their district Family and Civic Engagement Teams.
