Below are links to information and resources regarding accountability: School and District performance reports, issued annually, detailing students’ performance on standardized statewide tests, rates of improvement on those tests, student attendance and graduation rates State TestingSubstitute House Bill 231, passed in July 1987, provided for the establishment of a statewide high school proficiency testing program for Ohio high school students. Since that time, additional legislation has been enacted to modify and expand the diagnostic and achievement testing programs to include preschool, elementary and middle school aged students attending Ohio Schools. States must administer annually assessments in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science (aligned with content standards) at least once in grades 3-5, 6-9, and grades 10-12. States must also ensure that districts annually administer tests of English proficiency that measures the acquisition of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English to all English Language Learner (ELL) students. The resources attached come from Federal, State and local sources and are intended to be available to school district personnel to maintain compliance with federal and state regulations and to continue to strive for “best instructional practices” and “scientifically-based practices” for all student learners. Alternate AssessmentOhio's alternate assessment is designed for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The alternate assessment is a collection of evidence that shows student performance. This collection of evidence documents grade-level content but reflects an alternate level of achievement for each individual student.

Ohio English Language Learners State and Federal law require an annual assessment of K-12 Limited English Proficient (LEP) students to measure their English language proficiency. The Ohio Test of English Language Acquisition (OTELA) is the assessment used for testing English language proficiency for Ohio LEP students in Grades K-12. Preschool/Early Learning TestingThe Ohio Department of Education (ODE) has developed a brief assessment tool, the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment – Literacy (KRA-L), that will help teachers identify early reading skills. The KRA-L is required of all children entering kindergarten in public schools for the first time. It is not required for children being retained in kindergarten.
