North Coast Academy The mission of North Coast Academy is to provide an alternative high school setting where at-risk students may earn their high school diploma with additional competencies in social skills, job skills and research skills that enhance their ability to succeed in post-secondary schools, the armed forces or the job market. North Coast Academy opened in January 2001, as conceived by the Simon Youth Foundation (SYF). SYF and the ESC of Cuyahoga County established a consortium of thirteen (13) schools to serve the needs and diploma requirements of at-risk youth. The at-risk high school students are able to complete coursework in an alternative educational setting to meet their resident high school requirements allowing them to attain their high school diploma from their resident school district. Since 2001, the annual results of students completing their diploma requirements positively contribute to the district of residence’s Graduation Rate as reported on the Ohio Schools Annual report Card.
