Achievement Center for Children with Disabilities

» Achievement Centers for Children

The preschool program offers a full school day (M-F 9:00a.m. –2:30p.m.) for children 3-5 of age with a diagnosis of Autism/PDD-NOS. A summer program completes the twelve-month focus of continual services. The preschool model is available at both the Lakewood and Highland Hills locations. In collaboration with the ESC, this public preschool serves the needs of children who are currently not successful in their home schools.

The preschool model is designed to meet the individual needs of children with communication, sensory, and social needs characterized by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) using a comprehensive developmental approach. Each preschool class is limited to six children educated by a highly trained team of special education teachers, paraprofessionals, registered occupational therapists, speech therapists, a parent educator, a social worker, and a music therapist.

Children’s needs are addressed through their Individualized Education Program (IEP) utilizing a blended model. The methodologies include: Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH), Floor Time (Greenspan), and Musical Therapy.
