In 1996, Ohio’s General Assembly passed Senate Bill 230, authorizing the establishment of Local Professional Development Committees (LPDCs). Such committees were to be established in every school district by September 1998. The purpose of the committee is to review the course work and other professional development activities proposed and completed by educators within the district to determine if the requirements for renewal of licenses have been met. Based on the Local Professional Development Committee’s review, the Ohio Department of Education will continue to issue teaching licenses, and the licenses will be valid across the state.
