Ohio's Learning Standards - Extended (ELA, Math , Science and Social Studies), Grades 9-12
Tuesday, November 20, 2018
Topic:   Laws, Rules & Regulations
Sponsored by:   SST 3
Presenter(s):   SST-3 Consultants
Description:
Ohio’s Learning Standards – Extended (OLS-E) also are commonly known as "the extended standards." These standards help to ensure that students with significant cognitive disabilities are provided with multiple ways to learn and demonstrate knowledge and are now aligned to each grade level 3-12. At the same time, the extended standards are designed to maintain the rigor and high expectations of Ohio’s Learning Standards. Students who are instructed using the OLS-E are assessed using the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD).

The extended standards have been revised to align to the Ohio’s Learning Standards. There are some significant changes to the OLS-E (revised) including:

• Extensions available for each grade 3-8, 9/10 and 11/12; and
• Learning Progressions for all grades K-12

State Support Team 3 (SST3) is offering multiple sessions for Intervention Specialists focused on understanding the new OLS-E, using them in the classroom, organizing your lessons around the OLS-E and connecting instruction to the AASCD.  We will also provide professional development using a “train the trainer” model with Special Education Supervisors/Directors focused on understanding and using the Learning Progressions (LP). We will provide resources to use when training staff on the LP.
