The ESC of Northeast Ohio is offering the most cutting edge literacy strategies for
content teachers, Grades 6 – 12, through the area’s first workshop on Disciplinary Literacy.
So what is Disciplinary Literacy?
Releah Cossett Lent, author of Disciplinary Literacy and Disciplinary Literacy in Action states,
“Reading and writing within each discipline (content) is unique--and leads to understanding that every field of study creates, communicates, and evaluates knowledge differently.”
Grounded in the work of the leading literacy specialists like Tim Shanahan and Releah Cossett Lent, the workshop will provide instructional strategies for reading and writing in the specific disciplines that you can take back to the classroom.
