Description: |
Ohio’s Strategic Plan for Education and Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy make the importance of Adolescent Literacy undeniable. We are offering the most cutting edge literacy strategies for content teachers, Grades 4 – 12, through the area’s first two day workshop on Disciplinary Literacy. So what is Disciplinary Literacy? Releah Cossett Lent, author of Disciplinary Literacy and Disciplinary Literacy in Action states, “Reading and writing within each discipline (content) is unique and leads to understanding that every field of study creates, communicates, and evaluates knowledge differently.” Grounded in the work of the leading literacy specialists like Tim Shanahan, Cynthia Shanahan, Releah Cossett Lent, and Judith Irvin the workshop will provide instructional strategies for reading and writing in the specific disciplines that you can take back to the classroom. Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Registration: 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
