Ohio’s Strategic Plan for Education and Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy make the importance of Adolescent Literacy undeniable.

The ESC/SST Region 3 are offering one of  the most cutting edge literacy workshops for content teachers, Grades 4 – 12 Disciplinary Literacy.

So what is Disciplinary Literacy?

Releah Cossett Lent, author of Disciplinary Literacy and Disciplinary Literacy in Action states, “Reading and writing within each discipline (content) is unique--and leads to understanding that every field of study creates, communicates, and evaluates knowledge differently.” Grounded in the work of the leading literacy specialists like Tim Shanahan and Releah Cossett Lent, the workshop will provide instructional strategies for reading, writing, and discourse in the specific disciplines that you can take back to the classroom.
