Description: |
Springtime holidays and festivals in Japan center around traditional celebrations and the anticipated changes from winter to spring. The vernal equinox is a national holiday followed by Greenery Day and Golden Week to welcome the beginning of spring. Celebrations and parades mark Children’s Day, Cherry Blossom and Floral Festivals, the Kite Festival, and other springtime events. In this workshop, Mr. Haru Osugi, Japan Outreach Coordinator to Ohio, will share his knowledge of Japan’s Springtime holidays and festivals. We will participate in a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony as we celebrate the cherry blossom season. JOI is a grassroots program administered by the Japan Foundation Center of Global Partnership and The Laurasian Institution that sends Japanese coordinators to conduct community outreach and cultural activities about Japan. |
