Session 1: Overview of Early Childhood Assessment Practices

Assessment is key to our work with young children; at times we find ourselves struggling with terms, using tools that may not provide the information we need, and searching for more efficient/effective options. This session will provide:

· key terms associated with the main purposes of early childhood assessment

· examples of assessment tools used across purposes

· recommended assessment practice standards and guidelines for selecting the right tool for the desired purpose.

Session 2: Planning and Revising Learning Opportunities

Monday, March 6, 2017

How we gather, document, summarize, analyze, and interpret assessment information impacts the learning opportunities that are designed, implemented and evaluated. During this session, we will:

· explore a five step data-driven decision making process for early childhood team engagement.

· illustrate how the process ensures data collection and use align and drive engaging learning opportunities.

· use the Early Learning Assessment and other curriculum-based assessment tools to plan and revise instruction.

Session 3: Determining Interventions and Eligibility Practices

Monday, April 3, 2017

Eligibility determination is the process by which a child meets the federal and state definitions of a child with a disability. This session will cover practices related to evaluation of young children using:

· an in-depth process of seeking information to determine the nature and severity of the problem.

· play-based and authentic assessment practices as well as

· involving families in the process.

Additionally, emphasis will be placed on helping evaluation teams· make data-driven decisions and strengthen the link between assessment information gathered during evaluation and its use in instructional/intervention decisions.
