Description:  

This course is for all K-12 teachers both with and without previous study in the teaching of subject matter with attention to the literacy skills of reading, writing and study strategies. Visible learning for literacy requires that teacher’s understand which strategies and instructional routines are useful in which teaching situations. We will look at contemporary American society, K-12 students’ literacy abilities, and what teachers in all licensure areas can do to boost academic achievement. Our focus is knowing how to match instructional approaches with specific phases of learning, knowing your impact, and taking action when the impact is not sufficient in order to help students inherit the world of literacy.

This professional development series will consist of: Two (2) mandatory face-to-face sessions (1/2 day each); Self-paced online work using content specific Modules; Documented practical application/field experience in the classroom; Online discussion board participation; Documented additional preparation time for assignments and readings; Completion of a collaborative project with other participants of the course to be presented at the final face-to-face session.

Cost: 65.00 workshop fee

Graduate Credit: Three (3) hours of graduate credit, at a reduced rate, will be available to purchase through Ashland University.
