Description:   Description: Part 1 (Part 1 is required for new preschool special education administrators and staff who are responsible for completing the COS process.) Child Outcomes Summary (COS) professional development Part 1 provides an introduction to the COS process, describes children’s functioning in the three outcome areas, and explores the ?ve areas of essential knowledge that teams need for completing the COS process. In this session, you will gain an understanding of: •Why outcomes data is collected and the importance for program improvement; •The three child outcomes; •Age-expected child development; •Key features of a COS process; •Age expectations for child functioning within the family’s culture; and •How to use the rating scale.

Description: Part 2 (Part 2 is required for new preschool special education staff who are responsible for completing the COS process and is optional but encouraged for those who have completed an earlier version of the COS or desire recalibration.) Child Outcomes Summary (COS) professional development Part 2 will review key features of the Child Outcomes Summary (COS) process and required information to successfully complete the process. Participants will complete application activities and explore the requirements and resources speci?c to state policies about collecting child outcomes data. In this session, you will gain an understanding of: • When to complete the COS process; • Utilizing the decision tree, a tool to help distinguish between the ratings; • How the 7-point scale is related to age-expected functioning; • How to complete required forms; • Effective COS teaming practices and how they lead to accurate ratings; • How to support active participation by all COS team members, including families; and • How to promote team discussions about a child’s functioning
Audience:   Part 1 is required for new preschool special education administrators and staff who are responsible for completing the COS process, Part 2 is required for new preschool special education staff who are responsible for completing the COS process and is optional but encouraged for those who have completed an earlier version of the COS or desire recalibration.
