Using the New Can Do Statements for Intercultural Communication
Friday, August 11, 2017
Topic:   Behavior & Climate
Sponsored by:   ESC-NEO
Presenter(s):   Kathy Shelton, World Language Education Program Specialist, Ohio Department of Education
Description:

How can teachers help learners develop their cultural knowledge and communication skills while maintaining use of the target language? This summer the newly created Can-Do Statements for Intercultural Communication and the newly updated Can-Do Statements for Language will be published by NCSSFL-ACTFL. Explore these new Can-Do statements and how they provide a framework for goal setting, lesson building and student reflection. Self-assess your own intercultural competence in English and in a target language and reflect on how you integrate cultural opportunities for your learners. Then, use the new Can-Do Statements to create sample cultural lessons, activities and reflections in the target language, aligned to your learners’ proficiency level. Please bring a laptop. (Note: Participants will be provided with a sample copy of both sets of the new Can-Do statements.)
