Description: |
The ultimate goal of decoding instruction is accurate and automatic word recognition, which is the ability to read words in print without conscious effort. When students read words accurately and automatically, their attention and cognitive resources are available for comprehension. In Accurate and Automatic Reading, participants learn about basic decoding concepts and the structure of written English that aid the accurate and automatic recognition of printed words. Instruction for participants will include 1) soundsymbol correspondences, 2) syllable types, 3) syllable division patterns, 4) common roots and affixes, and 5) opportunities for practice. |
