High quality reading instruction is absolutely essential for students who are at risk for reading difficulties.
This is a four part
professional development series.
The first two sessions you
will learn the developmental sequences of phonological awareness; phonemic
awareness and phonics; reflect on your current assessment practices; explore
several diagnostic instruments and practice research-based, multi-sensory
instructional strategies.
The third session will focus on small group instruction (guided reading) with an emphasis on comprehension.
Lastly, in the fourth session teachers will examine the writing process and the types of writing students should be
producing within the classroom.
