Wilson Reading System Introductory Course

The Wilson Reading System is a comprehensive remedial program for students in grades 2-6 amd adults needing intensive intervention.  This 16.5- hour introductory course provides hands-on practice and application of skills with the WRS Lesson Plan to effectively begin implementing the program.  it serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification.  Topics to be covered:

  • Reading research
  • Principles of language structure
  • How the WRS addresses the five areas of reading
  • Definition of dyslexia and common characteristics
  • WS principles of instruction
  • Program implementation
  • Student placement, progress monitoring, and scheduling
  • Creating a successful classroom environment
  • Participants prepare a 10-part lesson plan and practice lesson procedures 

Note: Introductory Workshop (completed within the last five years) serves as the prerequisite for Wilson Academy â/Intensive Learning Community Membership and WRS Level I Certification.
