Learn about the geography, cultures and arts of modern Africa through the ESC’s Fall 2015 workshops that explore the central, eastern and western geographic regions of sub-Saharan Africa. Enhance your content knowledge about non-Western countries and societies in response to Ohio’s learning standards requirements. Pan-African scholars from Cleveland State and Kent State Universities will lead workshops and share their experiences teaching, living and working on the continent of Africa for the series “Teaching About Africa.”
September 2, 2015 –The Public Humanities and Modern Africa: An Interdisciplinary Symposium 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - Cleveland State University, Fenn Tower Ballroom, 3rd Floor, 1983 East 24th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44115 4:30-6:00 p.m. – Reception co-hosted by CSU Department of History and the ESC of Cuyahoga County Scholars and practitioners of history, anthropology, archaeology, art, education research design, geography, and library and information sciences will explore how the humanities and social sciences play a transformative role in modern Africa. CSU’s Center for Public History + Digital Humanities and Maseno University in Kenya have collaborated to create the first humanities-based mobile app in East Africa that records the history of the Kenyan communities and the future of their developing world. The symposium kicks off the ESC’s K-12 teacher workshop series “Teaching About Africa.” |
