This introduction to working with young English language learners provides the foundation for best practice for professionals in the field. Demographics and changing population trends will be discussed as well as legislation at the state and federal levels around English language learning. The importance of a solid early childhood program for children learning more than one language will be shared as well as some of the benefits of learning multiple languages. Respect for diverse cultures, working with families, and embedding family-friendly principles will be included in the discussion. Participants are encouraged to take this English Language Learners series session first. |
