Effective Classroom Management within a PBIS Framework-CANCELLED
Tuesday, November 25, 2014
This Event Is A Series Of Dates (See Below)
November 25, 2014 & January 21, 2015
Topic:   Behavior & Climate
Sponsored by:   SST 3
Presenter(s):   SST Consultants
Description:   As part of school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), schools identify three to five school-wide expectations and then define specific behaviors for each expectation within specific settings (e.g., hallways, cafeteria, etc.). This series will help teachers align their classroom procedures to the school-wide expectations in order to increase instructional time and establish an effective classroom learning environment.

This is a two-day series for teachers and administrators who work in schools that are implementing PBIS. Prior to Day One, participants will be asked to collect baseline data on specific classroom management issues they are experiencing.

Day One, participants will learn eight effective classroom practices:

1. Classroom expectations
2. Classroom procedures and routines
3. Encouraging expected behavior
4. Discouraging inappropriate behavior
5. Active supervision
6. Opportunities to respond
7. Activity sequencing and choice
8. Task difficulty

Participants will choose at least one of these effective practices and develop a plan for implementation within their classroom. They will be expected to use this strategy in their classroom for at least two weeks, and collect data. Teachers can work as teacher teams as well.

Day Two, participants will work in groups to analyze scenarios using a problem solving process to determine strategies for improving classroom behavior. Participants will also present the results of their own use of effective practices in their classroom. They will develop an action plan for full implementation of effective classroom practices.
