Description:  

The purpose of an evaluation under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is to determine whether a child is a child with a disability who needs special education and related services in order to access and make progress in the general education curriculum.  This session is intended to help educators conduct high quality, compliant evaluations that provide information that can inform instruction and support student learning.  Intended outcomes are as follows:

  • Understand the requirements for compliant evaluation team reports (ETRs)
  • Develop consistent methods for:
    • Supporting parental involvement in the evaluation process
    • Using data from interventions and assessments (classroom, school-wide and individual) to guide decision making
    • Team planning
  • Understand the connection between the ETR and IEP
  • Develop system structures for improving practices and outcomes


 

Audience:   School psychologists, speech and language pathologists, intervention specialists, general education teachers and other related service providers; building and district administrators
