This online book discussion series will explore the special needs of English Language Learners with practical strategies for teaching and learning.  Participants will read Getting Started with English Language Learners: How Educators Can Meet the Challenge by Judie Haynes, and selected articles about English Language Learners.  Books will be provided to registrants.  Online discussion will be facilitated by SST - Region 3 Consultants.
Audience:   Participants in the University of Dayton's Transition to Teaching alternate licensure program; Educators in schools implementing the Ohio Improvement Process and Eductors workign with ELL students

This online book discussion series will explore the special needs of English Language Learners with practical strategies for teaching and learning. Participants will read Getting Started with English Language Learners: How Educators Can Meet the Challenge by
Judie Haynes, and selected articles about English Language Learners.  Books will be provided to registrants. Online discussion will be facilitated by SST - Region 3 Consultants.

Requirements for each session include reading selected chapters, answering study guide questions, writing a student response essay, and participating in threaded discussion with other online participants. There will be a two-week timeframe for assigned reading and online response. Registrants will receive instructions to access the online platform prior to the first session. 

Participants completing the requirements of all four sessions will receive a $100 stipend.
