Description:

The transition to the new Standards is a big undertaking, and it cannot be done overnight.  Support the work of Teacher Teams as they collaborate to enact classroom instruction and assessment practices designed to maximize achievement for all students.

Experience the BFK Suite of Common Core Tools with YouTube and User Manual supports.  Created for teachers by teachers, these planning tools provide a clear and easy understanding of the standards, learning progressions, and grade-level academic vocabulary.  The tools are designed to support a collaborative team approach to developing units with sound tasks and assessment practices that ensure student success.  These teacher tools are being used to:

· Plan instruction

· Embed academic vocabulary in engaging learning activities

· Develop tasks and performance assessments

· Collect and document evidence to monitor student learning, develop student ownership, and communicate progress to parents

WHAT will each participant receive?

· A guided tour of “Effective Collaboration Time:  Tools and Processes for Embedding Ohio’s New Learning Standards” with video examples of teams of teachers embedding Common Core and developing tasks during collaborative planning times.

· Ample Team time allowing participants the opportunity to create one or multiple units of instruction using the BFK Suite of Common Core Tools.

· A K-12 ELA or K-12 Mathematics BFK UNIT ORGANIZER and a set of grade-level BUNDLED STANDARDS CARDS to work with during the day and back at school.  In addition, each participant will keep an additional tool of their choice, either a K-12 BFK VERTICAL PROGRESSION GUIDE or K-3, 3-5 or 6-8 BFK VOCABULARY REFERENCE.  See www.battelleforkids.org/commoncore for descriptions.

· An Introduction to “Media that Motivates” available by connecting to the INFOhio treasure chest of free materials targeted at implementing new standards, differentiating, and managing Lexile demands from the 21st Century Learning Commons, Core Collections, and more.

· An Orientation to the newest FIP Your School resources that support the assessment literacy skills that teachers need to do this work well.

· The opportunity to connect to other CDs, principals, teachers and instructional leaders from a pilot of over 40 building-based teams of teachers developing ELA and mathematics units and assessment tasks with connections to science, social studies, the arts and other subject areas.
