Regional Summer Academy

The ESC of Northeast Ohio partners with the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), Cleveland Metropolitan School District and 11 inner-ring school districts.  Held on the Metropolitan Campus of Tri-C, this primary program cohort includes 100 :middle C" students transitioning from 8th to 9th grade.  The purpose of this program is to offer opportunities for students to experience a rigorous, project-based curriculum while engaging in enrichment opportunities that support the development of student aspirations and college and career readiness.  The program continue to expand each year and included 9th, 10th and 11th grade students for summer 2013. 
 
High School - Higher Education Alignment Project
 
The project is a three-year pilot to alleviate remediation in Mathematics and English for entering freshmen at Ohio's public universities.  The project goals are to ensure
  1. high school and higher education preparation and placement expectations are well-aligned; and
  2. teacher preparation programs are aligned to Ohio's Common Core State Standards.

the ESC consortium includes five suburban districts, one career center and four universities.  Administrators and math and English faculty meet quarterly to

  • share data acquisition,
  • conduct gap analyses to identify problems,
  • create action plans, and
  • develop professional development.

For the following year, participants will create plans for the improvement of vertical alignment.  Grant award: $100,000/Ohio Department of Education.
