"NEO Math Learning Network: 2019-2020 Series"
Math education professionals engage in research-informed, standards-based learning sessions to advance both math teaching and learning for all stakeholders. Learning sessions are hosted by the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathmatics and/or the Crooked River Math Teacher's Circle
The Crooked River Math Teachers' Circle (CRMTC) is a group of educators who have caught the mathematics bug. We love math, or at least curious enough to learn something new. We gather in order to experience the joy and creativity of doing mathematics, no strings attached. Mathematics does not involve problem solving, inquiry, sense-making and reasoning, but rather IS all of these things. We belive everyone is a capable mathematician when given the opportunity to truly engage mathematically. We hope that during the process of doing mathematics together we will build relationships among university faculty and area mathematics teachers for the purpose of making mathematics a wonderfully contagious epidemic in our teachers and their classrooms.
At each meeting, participants will work  together to solve one or two low-floor, high-ceiling tasks. By engaging in these tasks, participants experience first-hand the Standards for Mathematical Practice and "productive struggle". Participants will also deepen their understanding of mathematical content, learn about NCTM's Eight Effective Teaching Practices, and have an opportunity to refelct on their own classroom practice.
For each CRMTC meeting that you attend, you can earn up to 3 hours towards the needed 15 hours for graduate credit. Here are the dates of the 2019-2020 CRMTC school year meetings. Thursday, September 19, 2019, Thursday, November 21, 2019, Saturday, January 25, 2020-AM session, Saturday, January 25, 2020-PM session, Thurday, March 19, 2020, Thursday, May 21, 2020.
The purpose of the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCCTM) is to encourage an active interest in the teaching and learning of mathematics and to work toward the improvement of mathematics education in the Greater Cleveland area. Throughout the school year, GCCTM provides opportunities for professional development and growth in mathematics education at all levels including two evening meetings, two Saturday mini-conferences/workshops, and an awards banquet with speakers.
